Nissan has unveiled the GT4 version of the new Z, which will be available to customers for racing starting next year. The race car appeared with a large wing, modified aerodynamics, and a controlled powertrain from Nesmo

A new racing legend?

Based on the 2023 Z model, the GT4 is a modified racing production vehicle. Nissan said NISMO has modified a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine in the race car, although power details and modifications have yet to be revealed. The dual exhaust system has been replaced by a single exhaust system that comes out of the rear of the passenger side, which is likely developed by NISMO.

The chassis and suspension have also been reworked to perform racing tasks, and the car gets a new body set with advanced aerodynamics. The huge wing, the new front separator, the hood with locking screws, and a new wheel design can all be seen.

Ashwani Gupta, Nissan's Director of Operations, said, "Motorsport at Nissan is an expression of our passion and experience." The same can be said of the Z itself, as the famous sports car was due to die after the generation of the 370Z.

Revival of Nissan Z

The new Z for 2023 was born as a Skunkworks project under the table, now thanks to Nissan GT-N and NISMO's Chief Specialist, Hiroshi Tamura, and Nissan Design Chief Design Officer Alfonso Albisa. The two men made an effective campaign within the company to revive Z, and succeeded.

The GT4 will be offered to customers as a ready-to-use racing car. The automaker did not specify whether to campaign for the car itself, nor did it say whether it would build the car or outsource production. Nissan is keen to compete with the new Z in motorsport as the Z GT500 competed in the Japanese Super GT series earlier in 2022.

Detailed specifications for the Nissan Z GT4 will be unveiled at the 2022 SEMA Show in the United States, which will take place on November 1-4, 2022. Deliveries will begin in the first half of 2023, so expect the all-new race car to hit the tracks by then.
